چکیده
Rachel Golden is a graduate student in the Energy and Resources Group and the Goldman School of Public Policy at University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, she has served as a student researcher on multiple energy policy issues at the California Governor’s Office, California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9, and Natural Resources Defense Council. Before returning to school, she was a Senior Program Associate at the Energy Foundation, where she focused on statewide and national strategies to accelerate the transition from coal to clean energy resources. Ms. Golden holds a B.A. in International Development Studies from UC Berkeley.

Assessing the Potential Benefits and Limits of Electric Storage Heaters for Wind Curtailment Mitigation: A Finnish Case Study
Driven by policy changes and technological advancement, wind power installations are booming as compared to any other types of power generation. However, the increased penetration of renewable generation in the power systems has resulted in high level of curtailment. Advanced energy storage technologies have been increasingly scrutinized as a feasible mitigation option in smart grids. This pape...
متن کاملUsing Dynamic Thermal Rating and Energy Storage Systems Technologies Simultaneously for Optimal Integration and Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources
Nowadays, optimal integration and utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) are of the most challenging issues in power systems. The wind and solar generation units' maximum production may or may not occur at peak consumption times resulting in non-optimal utilization of these resources. As a solution to this problem, energy storage systems (ESS) are embedded in networks. However, the power...
متن کاملOptimal Curtailment of Non-Synchronous Renewable Generation on the Island of Tenerife Considering Steady State and Transient Stability Constraints
The increasing penetration of non-synchronous, renewable energy in modern power systems displaces synchronous generation and affects transient stability. This is just one of the factors that has led to preventive curtailment of renewable energy sources in an increasing number of electrical grids. Transient stability constrained optimal power flow (OPF) techniques provide a tool to optimize the ...
متن کاملImpact of Uncertainty on Wind Power Curtailment Estimation
Ireland and other countries in the EU have binding targets for production of energy from renewable sources by 2020. Ireland’s Renewable Energy Action Plan aims to meet this target by producing 40% of electrical energy from renewable sources and most of this will come from wind power. In order to forecast the amount of wind power capacity required, it is necessary to forecast the amount of wind ...
متن کاملFeasibility study of presenting a dynamic stochastic model based on mixed integer second-order conic programming to solve optimal distribution network reconfiguration in the presence of resources and demand-side management
Nowadays, with the use of devices such as fossil distributed generation and renewable energy resources and energy storage systems that are operated at the level of distribution networks, the problem of optimal reconfiguration has faced major challenges, so any change in the power of this resources can have different results in reconfiguration. Similarly, load changes during the day can lead to ...
